RESORT ARCHITECTURE
Resort architecture is about creating experiences that enhance relaxation, enjoyment, and escape from the mundane.
SPACE
Spatial layout plays a crucial role in resort architecture. Our process planning experience which prioritises critical planning – enables us to work with clients and the natural context to create resorts that enhance guest movement and usage of the facility – guiding and amplifying their experience. To achieve this, we consider including expansive verandas, courtyard gardens, or panoramic windows that frame scenic vistas. Our approach to resort architecture incorporates an emphasis on communal areas, such as poolside lounges, spa retreats, and al fresco dining venues.
‘Graceland Architects creates resort architecture that is adaptable to diverse environments.’
BUILDING PERFECTION
Aesthetically, we prioritize simplicity. We prefer the buildings to take a supporting role in the guest’s experience: allowing the natural beauty of the surroundings remain the focal point – it’s why the guests came to the resort in the first place!
The resort should provide the backdrop for the guest to experience the natural environment they find themselves in.
“We believe that to accentuate natural beauty the buildings must recede into the background providing the guest with an unforgettable experience.”
SUSTAINABILITY
Functionality
Functionally, the resort should be easy to manage and operate. For example, the resort operator should be able to minimise the distances travelled by staff so that they are able to provide timely and courteous service to resort guests. Accessibility to amenities by both guests and staff are incredibly important as the service reticulation expenses increase as the resort sprawls.
Locality and fit-out of back-of-house services is critical for operational efficiency. Front of house fit-out is important to both the guest and the operational staff – impractical service spaces make it very difficult for guests to enjoy themselves, while staff are permanently ‘fighting’ the building to do their jobs properly.
NATURE
Systems
Resorts make use of the natural surroundings as the core of their service offering, for which guests are willing to pay.
Incorporating energy efficient water systems, reducing light pollution, noise pollution and air pollution are all aspects we take into consideration when working with the engineering team to create a resort that respects the natural environment.
Graceland Architects understands user functionality and enjoyment is a key part of resort architecture and we actively design for varying needs of all the resorts users.
